Our Story
Hey there world,
My name is Chi and we are an international family with roots from the Uk, USA, and the Philippines. Our journey to alternative education started when I was pregnant with our first born.. 7 years ago. However, our real learning journey didn't start until we decided to downsize our life (with 2 young kiddos in tow) and headed into the unknown to follow our dreams.
In 2020, during the height of the pandemic.. we had moved to a small island in the Philippines, called Siargao. We quickly got land and build it up from ground zero and turned it into a permaculture farm and a natured based preschool program. Inspired by our 2 children, we implemented a holistic approach through Play & Forest School.. that was also Montessori & Waldorf inspired. It became very successful up until a category 5 typhoon (called Odette) hit us on December 16, 2021 and wiped everything away that we created.
We fortunately survived.. and despite the devastation, we decided to rebuild again and managed to reopen our school after 6 months of the catastrophe. We reopened our preschool program, but along with a younger toddler group to accommodate a need in the community. However, after 7 months of operation, we made the hard decision to pull the plug. Due to continued challenges and financial reasons.. but the biggest most important reason, was because the neglect of our own family‘s needs, especially for our children.
April of 2023, we left the island and decided to take the time to heal as a family.. and find our feet once again. Inspired by our son, we hit the road in the Uk and found ourselves in Somerset. During this time, we explored and discovered other ways to living a life of more time and navigating our next move to further sparking a revolution in education.. and hence Second Nature was born.
